Michael Bloomberg’s potential presidential run is getting panned on social media– where 62 percent of the conversation about his 2020 aspirations is negative, according to the digital analytics firm Zignal Labs.
In fact the most popular tweet tied to news that the 77-year-old former New York City mayor may join the crowded Democratic primary field came from his would-be rival Elizabeth Warren.
“Welcome to the race, @MikeBloomberg!” Warren tweeted Thursday.
“If you’re looking for policy plans that will make a huge difference for working people and which are very popular, start here,” she wrote with a link to her “Calculator for The Billionaires” where the uber wealthy can determine how much they’d pay under her “Ultra-Millionaire Tax.”
With a net worth of $50 billion, Bloomberg would pay $3 billion under Warren’s plan.
Online Bloomberg is most closely linked to gun control and restrictions against the coal industry, according to Zignal Labs.
“Reddit is also driving a sizable portion of the online conversation around Bloomberg’s announcement,” said a spokeswoman for Zignal.
