Starbucks unveils creepy, charcoal-infused ‘Phantom Frappuccino’ for Halloween

By: Tamar L.

Starbucks has unveiled a new Halloween-inspired beverage in Europe that’s tinted black thanks to an ingredient that’s almost as creepy as the season — charcoal.

The vegan “Phantom Frappuccino” contains coconut milk, lime, mango, pineapple, crème Frappuccino syrup and a green slime made from spirulina extract.

There’s also an option to get a really Halloween feeling by topping the mixture with a dark coconut whipped cream made from coconut milk and black charcoal powder.

Charcoal has been popping up as an ingredient in everything from artisanal ice cream and hamburger buns to teeth-whitening kits and natural deodorants.

While Starbucks’ jet-black brew is full of trendy, health-conscious ingredients — a mini version of it is still 193 calories and contains 33 grams of sugar, according to Insider.

It’ll be available for five days across Europe beginning Oct. 26 with prices starting at $3.50.
