Streaming platforms dominate Emmys as Netflix takes best drama

Streaming platforms dominated the 2021 Emmys Sunday night time, with Netflix, HBO/HBO Max, Disney+ and Apple TV+ topping the checklist of winners – highlighting the shift away from conventional broadcast within the TV enterprise.

Netflix, buoyed by hit collection “The Crown” and “The Queen’s Gambit” took house a whopping 44 trophies, tying the 47-year document for many Emmys gained in a single yr set by CBS in 1974.

Meanwhile, throughout its cable channel and its matching streaming service, HBO and HBO Max landed scored 19 Emmys, helped by “Mare of Easttown” and “Hacks.”

Disney+, pushed by “The Mandalorian,” completed third general with 14 awards, adopted by Apple TV+ with 10, due to breakout hit “Ted Lasso.”

Notably, the streaming platforms swept the three most prestigious awards of excellent comedy collection, drama collection and restricted or anthology collection.

Apple’s “Ted Lasso” gained best comedy whereas Netflix’s “The Crown” and “The Queen’s Gambit” gained best drama and best restricted/anthology collection, respectively, topping off Big Tech’s domination of the night.

It marks a significant change from not way back, when streaming platforms weren’t thought of severe contenders for academy awards.

Hulu turned the primary streaming service to stake a declare to one of many three main Emmy awards in 2017 when “The Handmaid’s Tale” was named best drama.

Amazon adopted that up with “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “Fleabag” successful best comedy in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
