He tried to sweeten the deal.
President Trump handed out stacks of candy during his meeting with congressional leaders on Wednesday, sources said.
Trump treated House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to M&M’s, Skittles, Butterfingers and Baby Ruths during their meeting over the ongoing government shutdown, according to congressional sources.
Schumer said the president stormed out of the meeting during a “temper tantrum.”
But Vice President Mike Pence praised the president for his sugar diplomacy.
“Well, the president walked into the room and passed out candy. It’s true,” Pence said.
“I don’t recall him ever raising his voice or slamming his hand.”
The president and Democrats are at odds over Trump’s demand for billions in funding for border security.
Both sides appeared to be unswayed by the short and sweet meeting.
“Just left a meeting with Chuck and Nancy, a total waste of time,” Trump tweeted afterward.
