Flash floods and landslides wreak havoc in hills of Uttarakhand and Himachal

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, who was stranded in Sangla valley for nearly 60 hours due to landslides, was airlifted in a helicopter along with 15 sick and stranded tourists, Himachal chief secretary, Sudripto Roy said on Tuesday.

The rains and unprecedented flash floods claimed over 102 lives and left over 70,000 pilgrims stranded in Uttarakhand.

More than 1,000 pilgrims from Maharashtra are also stuck in the hills.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who made an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas in the state, has ordered revenue officials to ascertain the damage caused to crops due to rains in districts of Yamunanagar, Karnal and Panipat.
